I've waited 4 weeks now and all my t buds(aoshima satuma) have taken on my old navel tree. I just chopped down the branch above the t buds but did I do it too early? The tree is actively growing and fruiting here in central California.

At 4 weeks post budding, the rootstock remaining above the bud graft can be bent at 90°angle for a short duration. This is then followed by severing the rootstock completely about an inch to 2 inches above the bud. During the summer this should be enough to force bud growth. It's also often successful to remove the upper rootstock in a single step.
The bud response will differ, dependent on bud maturity, time of year, cultivars, etc.
