So this is our first try at growing an orange tree. Got a plant at a nursery, a nice healthy 36 incher. Planted in our front lawn, used potting soil and the original soil from pot. We had some flowering, nice. Now a month later and the leaves have started to curl, all of them. We have put 2 citrus sticks in. We thought water, of course. Lawn is irrigated once a night for about 20 minutes, lawn is doing okay. Tried extra water daily at base with hose, no change. Tried no water for a few days, no change. Tree appears decease free leaves are nice and green and good shape. Full sun for many hours a day. There is new growth, several inches in 2 months. Just how much water does this thing need/not need? Any help would be appreciated. I’ve read some about it, now would like some extra opinions.

Could you send a picture of the leaves to see what kind of "curl" they have. Dryness or to much water have different curl. You could make a small but deep hole in the ground to exactly know the repartitions of the water in the ground. Even if the lawn is OK, the ground can be dry few inches deeper. You should try to keep the lawn away from the canopy circle.

Thank you, the forum says it’s picture limit has been exceeded, so it won’t let me upload any photos.

Laaz, you don't think the tree needs water?

The tree does not look bad, but could use more water. By curling the leaves the tree is reducing the sun's rays. Increase the amount of water to the tree and everything should be fine.
