The Genebank Project, NARO in Japan has a variety of Poncirus Trifoliata with an astounding 17 brix (the highest of any citrus they tested). It is of course forbidden to import this into America, but other countries may be able to order clones. Regardless of the availability I am surprised that Trifoliata has the potential for such high sugar concentrations.

Poncirus fruits occasionally have such high Brix values. Sugar is high but when tasted is masked by high acidity.
Also, the presence of internal oils change refraction with Brix being determined not only by sugar content.

EDIT: I looked up "correcting Brix" and discovered that acidic solutions (like lemon juice) cause the Brix to read too LOW!I think their Brix is already corrected for acidity because they don't have any citrus with Brix lower than the acidity.

You have to put the juice in the refrigerator for one night, oils will drop to the bottom.

Yeah I did a nice scatterplot of Brix vs acidity The red points are Poncirus. I think it's really interesting how acidity goes down almost to zero, but brix never goes below 6

Thank you, hornad, for bringing the sugar content to our attention. I try my best to breed a Poncirus with low acids. Today, I pollinated mine (a zygotic one) with Trifeola. Perhaps that helps. I have unfortunatelly no pollen for other experiments at the moment.
