Laaz kindly provided some Swingle seeds with the fast flowering trifoliata seeds I picked up from him back in October. I've been growing them under LED grow lights this winter to hopefully get them to a graftable size later this year. After 3 months the largest of these is about 10 inches tall and just above 1/8" diameter. I've transplanted them to tall 3.5" pots, 3:1 standard potting mix and perlite.
One of the seedlings come up variegated as well! Not sure what variegated rootstock is good for except as a curio, but it's a nice looking plant so far and I plan to hold on to it and let it grow up. So far it's definitely less vigorous than its siblings, less than 2" tall at this point.

The variegated tree is less vigorous due to the reduced area of green foliage. It is the green colored chlorophyll part of the leaf that is generating nutrients for the tree. The Yellow portion provides no nutrition.

I would let that grow out & not graft anything on it. If it retains it's variegation it will make a great ornamental plant.

I would be interested in some budwood from this.

I would be interested in some budwood from this. Looking forward to sharing budwood once it gets large enough!

You may be lucky, but usually variegated seedlings either die or revert to normal colouration.

Looks very interesting. I however also heard that variegated seedling usually are hard to keep alive. We stay tuned and good luck.
