It is a lot harder to buy Junk in Europe than here in the united states. Valentine pomelo trees grow really well as a container tree but when they start flowering they flower over and over with over 1000-3000 flowers. The new growth dies then the old growth drops it's leave resulting in twig die back to provide resources to the new developing flower buds. Next the larger limbs start to die and the tree stops flowering and grows very aggressively to replace the imbalance of roots to top growth and the tree begins to looks very nice again to repeat the cycle again. None of the flower is successful in setting fruits. They all fall off to provide sustenance to the new flower buds forming and/or opening My in ground NZL does well. I would also thing that an inground citrus tree would not do well in countries were the bottom half of the sun fails to clear the horizon on winter solstice.

My in ground Valentine Pummelo tree has many fruit this year. My wife and I picked one for breakfast this morning. Good tasting fruit, however, I wish Valentine had move acid content to it.

Thank you, Ilya! Poncirusguy, thank you for your warning. I had a similar phenomenon with my potted chandler tree. The real reason was root rot because of unsuitable rootstock (probably sour orange). I regrafted on Swingle Citrumelo and had very healthy contiuous growth, though much less flowers. But be it as it wants, I have built a bigger green house (kind of winter garden) where I retained the natural ground. Since then I make the climate myself and can grow everything in ground. It really makes fun now.
