Hello, I am new at growing citrus and recently bought a young Valencia orange dwarf. However, I fear there may be a problem. Some leaves look fine, while others are darker green with dark splotches on the middle of the leaf near the vein. I have been searching the internet but to no avail, and decided to try my luck here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Aurinko Attachments:

I can not really se a problem with your trees from the pictures you supplied. Remember a couple of things: When you change the environment of a tree (sun, water, fertilize or temperature they react by shedding leaves. A citrus will constantly be in a state of flux when it comes to discarding and growing new leaves
Citrus trees require time to recover from any incident. Old addage goes: problem did not happen in a day and will not resolve itself in a day.
Can you take and post a close up of the leaves that you suspect have a problem. Perhaps you see what the pics do not show me. I will try to help you. WELCOME to the forum. Lots of information and good folks here.

Still, with the new pictures I do not see anthing remarkable. I see normal tree growth and non damage. I do not see any deficiencies in the tree as far as nutrients. Water and fertilize in the right amounts and I think you will have a great tree Just for information.....Newer leaves will be light green in color...older leaves will be darker and will show wear and tear as they are depleted. The will have new and old leaves as it flushes & as it grows.

I see abnormal dark areas, could be a sooty mold because of aphid infestation of upper leaves.

I have never seen such dark spots on the edge of leaves and on each side of middle rib! I am curious to see an answer.

Do the darker green areas wash off when moistened and lightly rubbed? Is there a chance there was an application of a substance to enhance the shine of the leaf, that has since worn off? I'm curious as to whether the darker, or lighter green is"normal".

Thanks for your replies. I outlined some pictures so you guys could see better. I never had an orange tree, so I'm not sure if it is normal coloration or not. Are Valencias normally two-toned? It is the newer growth that does not have the splotches so it could be because they are older. But I realized most of the newer growth is larger than the splotchy ones, I would have expected the younger leaves to be smaller maybe? I added a size comparison in case it means something. The underside has small dots on it, but I think that might be normal because it is on literally every leaf. I tried rubbing but nothing came off, other than the color it feels just like a normal leaf.

May be an initial phase of citrus greasy spot disease.

In twenty years of growing citrus, I have never seen anything like it. As the new growth does not have the dark marking, my guess what ever the markings are they might have been environmentally caused before you purchased the tree.

I have had frost damage that looked similar, initially. The damaged areas eventually turned brown a few days later.
