In 2002 I got from B.Voss Ichang Lemon grafted on poncirus, it was resistant to -8C freezes.
In 2003 it gave a dozen of large size lemons full of the seeds (~40 per fruit) with little juice. The seedlings were different in appearance, I saved the most vigorous one.
The original plant died in open ground after -10C nights, so I kept this seedling in a pot for three years and planted it in the ground in zone 9b garden in the South of France. Now, after 16 years it was flowering for the first time and gave one large fruit.
The smell was very pleasant, very similiar to the true lemon, the juice was abundant and acid, a little bit less than that of the lemon, albedo and internal membranes were bitter, but juice was fine.
I am going to test its resistance under zone 8 conditions; another clone of Ichang Lemon-Shangyuan from Baches nursery also died after several nights at -9C, so probably this variety is a hardy lemon substitute for the zones 9A-8B.

Would probably make a great rootstock for lemons as well.

It is similar to Shangyan, no difference but the thicker rind.

Ilya, Sylvain is there a significant difference in tast between the several types of IchangXLemon? One (152?) is said to be the best, as far as I can remember.

What I noticed with this seedling is that it does not have any hint of Yuzu smell.

I would be interested in knowing this as well. Ichang Lemon is one I’m looking into acquiring, although finding one in Texas might be a challenge.

In comparison with Citradia CRC 139 Ichang-Lemon is not really great. If CRC 139 is as hardy (or hopefully a bit better) I would prefer CRC 139. No bitter at all. Pleasant taste. Juice sour but less than real Lemon. Big recommandation!

Would probably make a great rootstock for lemons as well. I use a ishang papeda as a rootstock for kaffir lime and other lemons, grows fast and have a nice budunion

CPB 139 (not CRC) is kind of a Lemon hybrid that came from Petr Broza to Vivaio Eisenhut. The latter is not very hardy. I would say-8°

There is study about origin of the Ichang Lemon, it seems most likely originated as Pomelo x Yuzu cross. Characterization of Odor-Active Compounds of Ichang Lemon(Citrus wilsonii Tan.) and Identification of Its Genetic InterspecificOrigin by DNA Genotyping
