This should probably be in the "quat" section, but this is my favorite lime. My wife makes a excellent key lime pie out of these & they are almost the same as a key lime in size & taste. The big difference is they are quite cold hardy. When we had that 16 F night in2018 my Eustis tree sailed through it & never lost a twig.

They also go quite well in a ice cold Corona...

To me it is a very underrated quat. Very productive and easy to grow so it’s also my favorite lime I must say because my miles are poor producers.

I agree & it holds fruit throughout the year. Mine starts blooming in Feb & continues right through December. I always have a good supply on hand.

How does it compare to the Lakeland? I have a Lakeland that is just starting to bloom.

I had both & gave away my Lakeland because I liked the Eustis much better.

Thanks. I have a Eustis grafted also but it’s much smaller.

Does the limequat have a sweet peel, or is it more like a standard lime?

Standard, taste almost exactly like a key lime.

Agree with Lazz but you can eat the peel too. It’s really a great all around lime fruit. I just don’t understand why it’s not a commercially grown fruit.

Perhaps because if it is that much like a lime, the lime has already filled that niche in the market. Or maybe it would be too expensive to introduce and market the fruit to the general public for the return on the investment... after all limes are pretty cheap.

But limes are not cold hardy at all...

Not meant as any kind of judgement on the tree itself, I love the flavor of limes. Hershell just got me thinking on why it might not be a commercially grown fruit.

The peel is really good, much better than lime peel. Just think of your favorite dish with lime juice and peel from the same fruit.
