I have some seedlings of Juanita and keraji, would they make good rootstock for zone 8a? Just wondering if anyone has tried them as rootstock?

Can't hurt to try. If they don't at least they will come back from the roots & produce edible fruit. The only downside I see is that they don't go completely dormant like Trifoliata does. If you get a nice warm spell mid winter & they start to flush & then get a hard freeze you may lose them.

For the past 2 years, we have had warm Februarys, and then BAM, 24 degrees in March. It hasn't seemed to matter what rootstock a tree is on, it still wakes up and gets hit. The only tree that hasn't had any measurable damage is the Juanita on US 852. The Miho trees I got from Stan have been hit very hard the last 2 years. I thought Miho was very cold hardy. The few trees I have under a little overhang from an oak tree seem to do pretty good.
