This is one of my citrus plants that didn't survive the winter months outside. The rootstock still has some life in it though, these shoots popped up from below the soil level. I'm actually curious to know what it is. The smell of the leaves reminds me of seville but the shape doesn't match with that. Any ideas?

Looks like sour orange. Graft what you want on the most vigorous shoot. As soon as the graft is calloused and thriving cut the others and the old citrus off. It will do fine.

Sour orange would have a wing.

Yes you are right Lazz. Hard for me to tell exactly what it is. It is evidently a survivor so I would still use it.

My thoughts also... the leafs don't match sour orange. A pity as I like sour orange 🙂

New Zealand works great as a inter-stock. I had one I grafted to swingle & didn't care for the New Zealand, so I grafted ST. Teresa to the New Zealand & topped it. The ST Teresa is growing like a rocket. Also the New Zealand rooted very easy from the branches I cut off. If anyone has NZ seed, I would be interested in trying it as rootstock for lemons.

I will send you some NZ seed. It would not be a huge amount as NZ fruit have VERY little seed per fruit.
