For vacation i'm traveling to croatia (pelsejac, near dubrovnik). I read that there were some delicious mandarin farms by the neretva river delta. Does anyone know some nurserys for mandarins etc. Or important places zo visit?
Hopefully i'll find some early fruiting croatian Variation of satsumas. With a little bit of luck, i can taste some early fruits in the first week of September.

Don't buy citrus on the Adriatic coast(or bring back any part). They have one of the most virulent Citrus tristeza virus (CTV).
To have healthy trees they must only use trifoliate as root stock.
I know this place well, practising paramotor (powered paraglider). They only grow satsumas of one variety, I don't remember if it's zorana (zorica rana) or slava vavilova, both are very good.
You can find them in France without CTV.
In general, don't cross any border with citrus unless you exactly know what you are doing, even if it is legal like in this case.

There are many nurseries there. They usually start selling early Sorts around 15.09. zorica rana is the earliest.

I wasn't aware that this disease is common down there. at least not more often than here in northern europe. do you know a source for ctv test kits in europe? Of course I don't want to contribute to the distribution under any circumstances. But if I should get test kits, an import would be possible. there are situations where i would also like to check plants from other nurseries. |

do you know a source for ctv test kits in europe? Make a search with:
+"Citrus tristeza virus" CTV +"elisa test kit"
Some amateur use it but they find it very expensive. |
