In 1955 there was a USA botanical expedition to PNG led by L. Brass. Two entries you will still find in the PNG Plants database show citrus specimens collected on Goodenough Island at that time. One is listed as Citrus warburgiana, the other as Microcitrus australis. Both are incorrect and are now accepted as the new species Citrus wakonai. See my explanation at www.homecitrusgrowers.co.uk/australianpngnativecitrus/citruswakonai.html

I grow C. wakonai, you cannot have a fruit of 8cm. It must be a hybrid. The biggest are around 5 cm and don't have such an elongated shape.
An other mystery: compare the ovary on the official description and the ovary on my picture taken in Wakonai!!! Page 37 on my website. On Goodenough island there are no other known citrus, then no hybrid.
