Last year my Meyer lemon and tangelos produced fruit that we’re excessively seedy; much more than previous years. I did change the irrigation but can’t tell if they are getting more or less water as we did drip lines with additional spray from lawn watering. They look healthy except the Meyer leaves aren’t especially glossy. However, there are no other discernible pests. What causes too many seeds in the fruit? They are blooming again and would like to minimize this year. Thank you!

Your trees have been crossed pollinated from other citrus trees close by.

Thank you. They are next to one another. So will this now always be the case?

I guess your only option would be to cover the trees in bug net or polytunnel plastic during flowering and hand pollinate. Though that's quite extreme and maybe not even possible depending on the size of your trees.

Only one of the trees would need to be covered at a time. The cover could be alternated from one tree to the other, allowing self pollination of each tree, yet preventing cross pollination. With smaller trees, the alternation could be on an every other day basis.

Thank you. They are next to one another. So will this now always be the case? But you said that other years they were not as seedy. So maybe its a new tree nearby. Bees and other bugs travel far so that might be it. Or maybe on other years they flowered at slightly different times and just last year they both flowered at the same time. Another difficult solution would be to force them to flower earlier to avoid the other pollution. This could be done by giving them heat earlier in the year. I have also heard of forcing flowering in lemons by causing drought then giving water.... This could be easier. But I don't know anything more about it other than its done.
