You might be right sir. Quicker citrus seed in the ground the better. I removed these, washed and put in the ground. I am watcing for germination and will report if it happens. As of today I have no sign of germination.

Follow up: No germination as of today. Seed not appearing to swell at all. I opine that if they were going to germinate they would show some indication by now. Will wait 10 more days just to be sure.

Update: August 13th. Still no germination. Seed still look ok...not rotten. Going to give them a little more time. I have planted mature poncirus and it was still coming up a year later.....know not why. Difference in seed I guess.

David, I have a large FD tree (about 8ft tall, 20+yrs old). If you need some seeds, it will be ready by end of Sept. What state are you in ?

No germination as of today. Going to call off the dogs and put out the fire. Guess seed were not mature enough to germinate. It was worth a shot. Learned something.

David, I think it would be a good idea to craft mature Flying Dragon on a FD-seedling. This would prevent the rootstock from building up a shoulder and you'd get an early fruiting plant.

Yes, you are probably right. When you graft fd on standard poncirus you do get a bench....therefore a weak link in the tree. I have since started fd x fd and will see if that makes a stronger tree.

I have many citrus cultivars grafted upon Flying Dragon root stocks. All of them have developed a shoulder between the root stock and scion. None has show any hint of a problem. The oldest grafted tree is a Cara Cara which must be about 20 to 25 years old. I particularly like using FD as a root stock, due to the high quality fruit FD produces

I am with you Millet. I have been using fd and standard poncirus for years. I love the smaller tree and the unadulterated fruit that it produces. It does bench....but I usually do not have a problem with the bench. In my fd that I lost there was an additional problem. The bench had some rot in it....caused by who knows what. Was not evident till Barry blew the tree over. Had the bench been solid it probably woul never have happened. Still going to use fd and poncirus. The Swingle that I lost was not the tree. It just blew the fruit off way to early. I use swingle for a fast growing rootstock and a large tree. I will plant fd and swingle as soon as I get seed.
