Thong Dee is the larger fruit (3-4 lbs), Valentine (1-2lbs). But to me I like Valentine taste since it is sweeter and peels easy. Thong Dee tastes ok, but nothing special to me but I don't eat many pomelos (chandler, reinking, thong dee, tahitian, cocktail, mato buntan). Attachments:

If you live in California everything taste better, for one thing yours has better coloring. Mine has a few more months to go. My observation was from last year, will see this year. Sweeter maybe.

From my list of pomelos, I like the Thong Dee the 2nd best. The rest of my pomelos have been grafted over with Valentine, Cocktail grapefruit, Melogold. I have a seedling pomelo (Roy's pomelo) that I planted long ago (15+yrs) which tastes better than the Thong Dee, but the skin is still hard to peel so need to cut it with knife.
I read that Banpeiyu pomelo is suppose to be very good tasting and large so I hope my grafts have fruit next year so I can taste this one.

I'll put in my vote for Valentine. I have an in ground tree which gives a lot of fruit.

All my citrus are in containers, don’t have the luxury of a fancy greenhouse. A Greenroom is all I use to the max, about 40 tree’s, none taller than 6 feet tall. Have all the fancy mandarins in my collection. This winter I can find out which is the finest with consideration of my Arkansas operation. Happy with what I am doing. It looks like they are o. K. For the month of October being outside.

Moving trees around, dropped a few Pomelo’s. They were not totally ripe, still had green skin. Left them for a couple of weeks, turning totally yellow. The Valentine had a thicker skin, Thong Dee is juicier, both tasted very similar, hard to compare, for one the Thong Dee was not up tp size, still I enjoyed them a lot. For me they are both keepers. Last night I couldn’t eat a whole one.

I have been eating a lot of Valentine and to me its sweeter and better (easy to peel) than Thong Dee. Most of my Valentine fruits were 2 pounds. My Thong Dee is still not ripe so maybe in another month. The fruit is getting big, I think my larger Thong Dee fruit is about 5 pounds now.

I have an in ground Valentine tree, and I agree with all of the above comments concerning the sweetness of the fruit, but I wish the fruit also had more of a acidic content.

Yes, I agree. If it had a little more acidic taste it would make it the best tasting of all grapefruit/pomelo for me.

I grow a few mandarins, they are all sweet, Thong Dee falls right in that category, have 5 tree’s so far, I am good. 40 some citrus tree’s, mostly mandarins, not bad. Got enough to last till March.

marro, how was your fruits this year? Which one of your pomelos and mandarins did you like the best?
I tried to pick all my fruits about the same weekend so I can try to do a side by side comparison.

I had 3 large Thong Dee this year that I waited for to get ripe but the rats/birds got to two of them and only one was left. I gave the last one to another forum member who wanted to taste the Thong Dee.

Having only Valentines and Thong Dee pomelo’s not wanting more varieties, these are 2 are more than enough. Our neighbor friends enjoyed them a lot. One told me, these are the best grapefruits I ever tasted. They all loves them, including myself. Very juicy but milder than grapefruit but I enjoyed a different taste more to my liking. I am going to leave the remaining Thong Dee till February along the Valentines for comparison.First week in January was already pretty good for picking Thong Dee,s.
