I guess it is a step toward pinnate leaf. I have two seedlings that show pinnate leaves when young, this trait is disappearing with time.

Do you mean pinnate like an ash? This 2nd petiol is only on the top leaves. I am curious to see what happens with this curiosity.

Ilya, are these leaves persistant? I had them years ago with up to 7 leavelets but they quickly disappeared with the new sprout.

Indeed, this plant is almost completely unifoliate now
