I have an unusual looking fruit on my Lisbon lemon tree. This fruit is round shape (different from the rest on tree) and it has a navel. Has anyone ever seen a navel on a lemon ? This is a first for me. The size of the fruit is about 1lb.

Does it taste good or does it taste like any other Lisbon lemon.

You might put a tag un the branch from where it comes.

Looks like that lemon was left hanging on the tree for quite some time.

Yup, it was on the tree since March 8 when I picked some of my fruits. I couldn't reach it with my fruit picker since it was between some branches in a cluster of fruits. My tree gets a lot of fruit all year long. I did not notice it had a navel until I picked more fruits in May and this big guy fell down when I shook the branch with the picker.

A few more photos that I took in March. I have some fruits that are round as you can see, the rest are normal shaped. When I cut open the lemons, most are almost seedless.

My tree doesn't have any rootstock branches growing, its only Lisbon lemon.

Sylvain, do you think this is unique and I should keep track of the branch from where it came? I would get up on my taller ladder since I know about where it was on the tree, but I'm on a crutch since breaking a femur bone since 1/2019. I have too many branches in the area of the tree so its a little difficult for me to get up in that area with a ladder. So far, its the first navel Lisbon lemon on this tree.

Yes, the aim is to graft it in case it is a mutation, not a physiologic incident. If you cannot do it, someone could do it for you.

Yes, I can do it. Just didn't know if this navel lemon was anything unusual that I should try to isolate the branch and graft it. Ok, I think I will do that, good you replied to this since I was planning to cut back my taller branches this weekend.

Once before I have seen lemon that had features like an orange. Not a Lisbon or a Eureka but an ancient Meyer. Round and with a naval. I grafted the branch that it was on, it was the only lemon like that. It grew and produced standard Meyer lemons for years. I gave the tree to a church and I and interested parties have checked with each crop, but alas Meyer is all it makes๐๐

But does this lemon taste good. Did it peal easily. Did the sections separate easily so you could enjoy each section 1 at a time.
