This is a cleft of a Feminello on swingle I did last fall. The lemon is growing faster than the rootstock. Hopefully it will correct itself.

This to me is another type of graft incompatibility. When the graft takes off and the rootstock does not maintain tbe same or near the same it makes for a weak tree IMHO. I have through trial and error found some scions of some cultures will overgrow the rootstock. Sometimes you also get reverse benching....the bench forms in the scion at the graft union. The weather we have will cause a problem at the weakest link in the chain......the union. Swingle is a vigorous rootstock. Do not know what else you would use......perhaps grapefruit? ?

So, does this mean I would not want to try grafting a St Teresa lemon onto trifoliata or a citrumelo? Some citrus is too vigorous a grower to graft onto certain rootstocks? I thought we could put almost anything on PT or FD.
