I found a fragrant Poncirus. It made its first flower on a small grafted budstick. It already started to smell when the flower was still closed. It's a large-flowered type. I call it Damax, after its finder. Does anyone know any other fragrant Poncirus? There was some discussion about it. So I guess there are others. I might add a picture later but there is nothing special to see on it.

Wow. I have always argued with people stating that there were fragrant PT Flowers. I was absolutely shure there were none. But if there are PTs with fragrant Flowers -okay- I would like to grow one of them.

Just like Roberto, I have always complained about books and articles that frequently say Poncirus has fragrant flowers. I am still sure most of the authors are just repeating incorrect information and have never actually smelled any. I certainly can't smell any fragrance but am willing to accept some people may have better noses! However, it would indeed be good to grow a variety that really does have a strong citrus smell. I wonder if this could actually be a hybrid such as a citrange or citrumelo???

the mother plant is growing in Kärnten, Austria. The owner told me it is zone 5 to 6. If it is a hybrid it is a very hardy one. But I don`t think so. The fragrance is very strong it is hard to miss. It is filling the room.

I am quite sure this is a backcross with some citrange or citrumelo. The petals show some differences to PT-flowers (to my eye). Reminds me of the flowers of cunningham livurce.

Hybrid or not, if it is hardy to zone 5-6 then it is a very interesting finding! I was often disappointed that Poncirus has beautiful flowers but no fragrance (or almost none).
By the way: How strong is the fragrance of 50% Poncirus hybrids? I recently bought a Rusk Citrange. It got a lot of flowers (only male ones :-() but the fragrance was only half as strong as that of most citrus flowers. Swingle 5 Star and Sanford Curafora are very fragrant but these are 2nd Generation hybrids as is a nameless Sanford Segentrange that I found. Its flowers are only as fragrant as my Rusk Citrange.

This one is also a fragrant one. With a very slight sweet lemon scent according to the owner. But I haven`t seen it by myself.

But has no strong fragrance as it seems. "Ja,ein ganz leichter süsslicher Zitronenduft" in the link above, means "Yes, a very weak sweetly lemon perfume". My Poncirus tree have also a very weak odor but really weak. My nose is bad. I usually don't smeel my trees at all but sometimes there is something in the air not unlike the fragrance of Citrus flowers. That seems to be normal for Poncirus.

I have one of five different poncirus and dragon trees that has a slight sweet fragrance to the blooms if you almost cram the flower up your nose and that’s only one out of every four or five flowers. I wouldn’t even call it an orange blossom fragrance.
