The growing area is related to the hidden Christians communities from the end of the Tokugawa period to the Meiji era. According to this, also the name is related to word christian.
It was rediscovered around 2001, when a Nagasaki City employee was conducting an area survey and collected a fruit on the roadside and tasted a unique taste. It was the beginning of the research of Mr. Nezuno from the Research Okitsu base (now Agricultural Research Organization Kinki Chugoku-Shikoku Agricultural Research Center).
