I've never like those & have never had good luck with them. Regular cleft is much more successful.

Not really sure, I've seen it in the past... Maybe to try & keep moisture out of the cleft? I you wrap it correctly you would never have that problem.

The scion was slightly larger than the rootstock and I was afraid of splitting the rootstock too far down the middle (as I had done twice before I got to this one). I prefer regular clefts, chip buds and t buds. I probably won’t try this one again.

I do saddle graft whenever I am working on a very tiny rootstock seedling and a larger/older scion. I did this one March of 2019 I believe.
