In 1965, Ian was awarded a Churchill Fellowship for citriculture, and granted a
5-months study tour in 1966 to visit Singapore, Malaysia, Israel, USA and New Zealand.
In 1978, the International Plant Propagators Society (IPPS) elected Ian as its National President for the Australian region, and in 1985 as its World President. In 1992 IPPS gave him the Award of Honor for his outstanding work in the IPPS Australia, and in 1998 the International Award of Merit for his service in the dissemination of horticultural knowledge.
In 1980, the International Society of Citrus Nurserymen (ISCN) elected Ian as one of three international
founders to represent the Australian/Pacific region, and in 2005 he was elected as Patron of the ISCN.
In 1995, Ian Tolley was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for services to the community, horticulture, and the citrus industry in particular.
He has provided consultancy for the World Bank to governments, organisations and private orchardists in
Australia, the USA, South Africa, Fiji, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Egypt.
