Good post. Until ebay and others decide a way to police their sellers the scammers will continue to steal. David has a cure. I buy nothing from ebay. Seed sellers only desire money. As you said.....if it is from China avoid at all cost. I guess the answer is like this: It is up to us to educate ourselves enough to recognize scams/untruths and to be able to steer clear of them. You can find anything you want for sale on the internet. I like to use the old addage.....If it is a really cheap or good deal it is probably a scam......

I almost never buy seeds online, only when the seller has a clear reputation. By the time you plant them and see they are dead or the wrong time it is too late to get your money back.
Usually I just get starter seedlings that are already growing. I have been able to find really great sources for live plants from inside the US including on eBay, etsy, amazon... I don't really need so many of each type that you get when sowing seeds.

Buddha's Hand are completely seedless Just a detail: It is true for the kind we have in west countries there are several varieties in China that have seeds.

Thanks Sylvain, both these sellers are in the USA. Even if they had a seed or two, to have multiple 80 seed packets for sale? I call fraud.

I often sit on the pier with Jack Daniels and contemplate the current situations that arise. Todays thoughts centered upon: The Chinese people must think that all Americans are stupid. I am getting a visual of a gathering where the ebay sellers are laughing and telling of episodes where they sent dried out poncirus seed to an American, called it purple tangerine seed and charged him $6:00 for them. So many "fake" listings on Ebay, Etsy and Amazon too. Shame. Then perhaps my friend Jack is making me see the "down" side of it...........

Walmart "Photo" scammers: "PLUM TREE ... a real Photo of" "Drill ... a real Photo of" I searched for bare root trees for some landscaping. And they wanted $35.00 for a photo. I found photo scams for many items once I started looking. They describe an item, then somewhere it says "real photo of" Walmart has free-shipping to will call service. It's often a great deal. -But they don't even maintain their own search engine. Bad Bad Bad!

I like this post. I had to learn all this the hard way. My baobab seeds turned out to be Chinese windmill palm. And I'm still waiting for some dried poncirus seeds I bought off amazon. Of course I've since leant that dried citrus seeds that are at least 6 months old won't germinate. But I'll still plant them and hope for the best.

There are at least three locations in Ireland with mature poncirus trees. One is in Garinish Island, Co. Cork.

And if you cannot go and harvest those, Ash, I'll be happy to send you some free of charge in autumn.
