If I had to guess....the results of cold stress during winter and tree is shedding the older stressed leaves. Anyone else have an idea?

I get some leaves like that sometimes. It seems to be leaves that come on in early spring, when it's wet and cloudy, then get hit by harsh summer sun. On mine, it is mainly on the western side of the tree. I don't know if your problem is the same, though.

I think it is. This tree bears lots of lemons and no disease is indicated. It is planted on the South side of my house. Gets early morning sun, noon sun and all evening sun. Even citrus leaves need a break from the sun....
