I bought 2 Kishu trees at the 2016 Southeastern citrus expo in Ft. Valley. One of those trees has been determined to actually be Juanita. I have 4 other Kishu trees now, some with fruit. None of them look like the ones on the tree that I got at the expo. The growth habit looks the same, but this tree's fruit has a very pronounced neck, like Dekopon or Honeybell. This is the first year for fruit on this tree. The fruit size is similar to my other Kishus. Any ideas? TFN

Not a Kishu with that neck. Dekapon would get larger than Kishu.

I have 3 Dekopons in a row next to this tree. The fruit are WAY BIGGER on it.

Could it be a Minneola honeybell?

I don't have a Mineola to compare it to, in growth pattern or fruit size. I would think Mineola would be bigger than Kishu at this point. My Page's are even much bigger than these.

Definitely not Minneola, the bottom is too flat and it is way bumpier. Looks like Dekopan to me. Here's my Minneolas right now:

Dekopon Kishu? Both pics taken today. Even leaves and growth habit are different. I just don't know what it could be, if it is not Kishu, but does not look like my other ones. TFN

Did you purchase the trees from Loch Laurel Nursery or something close to it? I would check out the nursery's website and see which varieties they have and do some comparisons/eliminations. Edit: www.lochlaurelnursery.com/citrus.asp Maybe a Sugar Belle?

Yes, I got both of the "Kishus" from Mark from Loch Laurel Nursery, at the expo. One of the trees, Mark determined was likely to be Juanita. This other one I believed to be Kishu, until now. I will call Mark tomorrow and see if he has any idea. Could it be Ambersweet orange, as small as they are?

My Sugarbell does not have any fruit this year to compare it too, but the leaves are very similar. But, wouldn't the fruit be bigger, and not the size of my other Kishus?

I checked my other Kishu trees, and the leaves on those are very similar also. The growth habit of the Sugarbell is quite different than this questionable Kishu.

Do you have any photos of the blossoms? That may help too. You could make a trip down to the nursery and compare the leaves in person. While there, maybe pick up another tree or two? Mark doesn't list Dekopon on the website and by process of elimination I would think it's a Sugar Bell as it has the top knot. www.briteleaf.com/product/sugar-belle-dwarf/

Picture of tree and blossom. My Sugarbell has a much more compact and upright growth habit. TFN

Well, I talked to Mark, and Hershell, as to what this tree could be. Hershell said that some years, his Kishu has a neck like that, some years not. With all the other attributes of this tree resembling Kishu, I will call it a Kishu....for now. Lol
