Hershel, many kinks of citrus leaves will root, but never progress any further. The rooted leaf is a dead end. That’s why I say it does bud and grow. I find quite a lot of them but not intentionally done. I sent Lazz a picture, hopefully he’ll have time to post it.

Part of the cuttings mixed up the top and bottom. Try rooting to take Poncirus with leaves

Thanks Lazz, this is a leaf that roots and then grows a bud. I don’t grow these intentionally but as we graft and remove leaves some root and grow. So there not always dead ends.

This happens under the right circumstance. I have seen these grow into complete plants. Leaf cuttings are sometimes slow and sporatic growers but some are very vigorous.

> Why in the first photo are the sticks upside down in the soil? At the first look(s) I thought that too, but if you look carefully you can see the buds above the cut thorns

Strange, I've never seen the thorns pointing down...

I also retain the leaves and use young wood. Success with Trifoliate and its hybrids is quite high, over 50%. I have read somewhere that leaves produce auxin, the natural rooting hormone. Sometimes Poncirus is slow rooting. But you can keep it under a plastic bag for months and it does not die. The same with Citrus. I sometimes got budwood in autumn, kept it indoors under a plastic bag till next spring and then grafted it. Is no problem.

They look like but they are not. Notice the place of the buds.
