Lately I've been collecting different hardy eugenia plants. Anyone else have experience with these? We can not grow real cherries here as we don't get enough chill hours. Cherry of the Rio Grande is a good substitute for me & is hardy down to about 20F.

Have you tried any of the new low chill cherry varieties? I have Royal Rainier, Lapins and Stella. Planted in 2016, and all bloomed this year and even got a few cherries from the Royal Rainier. They tasted pretty good, and bloomed later than most of my trees, missing the late freeze.

Nice eugenias socalmike. I've been trying to collect those and plinia/myrciaria lately. It gets as addictive as collecting citrus.

I like this. I too do not get enough chill hours to grow any cherries here (Louisiana). I am gonna do a little research and try this. Where did you folks get seed?

I got a bunch of eugenia seedlings on Etsy recently. So far they are doing great, they are supposed to fruit in containers easily.

Looks like I may be getting some Pitangatuba (Eugenia selloi) fruit if I’m lucky and they hold...

I have eugenia pitanga (black pitanga) and eugenia pyriformis (uvaia), but unfortunately I've never get one , maybe this autumn.
And one jabuticaba if you accept the classification Eugenia cauliflora.
I have other tropical fruits, but they are psidium.

For the whole month, I am running around all the nurseries, TFF and private growers. I am able to collect the following and they are all seedlings:
1. Surinam Cherry (red and black) 2. Cherry of the Rio Grande 3. Barbados cherry
I am actively looking Grumichama. They all can grow in the container, and I want to build a fence with them. Does anyone good variety to recommend?
Thanks, Al
