I did some grafting for a fellow and while doing it the conversation turned to a grove of trees behind a cabin on his property. I insisted that we visit this grove. I thought it might be poncirus. Upon putting eyes on the trees they turned out to be MLemon. The trees are pretty much confined in an understory environment. Owner says there were 3 trees when he bought the place in 1985. There are now 8 trees. Evidently they have self propagated. The humus is deep here and near surface root expansion has allowed new trees to grow. Full of lemons too. Very strange occurance to witness. First time I have seen this with MLemon. Conditions must be just right for this to happen. The trees get zero care. A visit to pick lemon several times a year is all the attention they get. Anyone seen such a thing? Ive seen poncirus do it but.....never MLemon.
