No such thing as you can't graft in 100F heat...

The first graft failures I have had in a long came this year. I chip budded and cleft grafted some kumquat. The heat was 100 and vasilated to 110 degrees for several weeks. I grafted in the shade and kept the new grafts watered and in the shade. They failed. I put the blame on the heat. I usually have good success with chip or cleft even though the heat is high.....but....I feel it was just too high during the time I chose to graft. Waiting till the temps drop (which should be in a couple of weeks), to give it another shot. Since my first frost date is Dec. 1 I shall wait to force in the Spring. I have not experienced temps @ 110 in years. Did anyone else have heat related failures? My opinion only.....
