I have a tree which was tagged as Taichang but turned out to be trifoliate. It completely looks like PT but if you crush a leave there is a very pleasant smell that reminds of Yuzu-leaves. Any idea?

Thank you, David. Mentioning "tagged" might have been missleading. I did not buy this "Taichang" but got the scion from a Friend and crafted it on PT myself. A picture would'nt tell much, because the leaves are exactly the same as PT. You could not tell a difference. The point is this very pleasant smell of its leaves(when crushed). Maybe Sylvain could tell more About this specimen.

IF It has trifoliate type leaves, then it is not the taichang. I brought back the taichang lemon after visiting a collector of citrus in Georgia some 15 years ago. Taichang leaves resemble yuzu and I would think there is some yuzu somewhere in the bloodline. PS I named this cultivar since the person I got it from did not have a name for it.. He only said it was a cross of taiwanica and ichang... So: Taichang

I have heard it all now. What is a yuzuvange? Why have I never seen one or even heard of such an animal? Is it a new cross? Splain it to me please.

Well never mind. I looked up the details on savage citrus.....you smoke it....not eat it. UCR says it is not available any longer. Have never seen one. Are we speaking of Savage Citrange?

Yuzvange is one of them, developed 40 years ago.You can find its description in HARDY CITRUS FOR THE SOUTHEAST booklet by Tom McClendon. It does have mostly unifoliate leaves, but strong shoots are trifoliate.

I am the one who gave the "Taichang" to Roberto. I received the budwood with the name "OP Taichang". The scent of the flower is exactly the same as the flower of the lily of the valley. The only fruit it gave me was the shape of buddha's hand! I don't remember who gave it to me. I am also looking for any information.

Thank you, Sylvain. Here are two pictures of the trifoliate leaves. I have to admit that there is some difference to regular PT leaves. Very short peteoles.

These leaves are different from mine. Mine have lanceolate leaflets.

These leaves are different from mine. Mine have lanceolate leaflets. But it is "your" DNA. Shape of leaves changes often. I have high-crafted 899a on PT and it grows quite vigorously has big serrated leaves. you would not guess it was the same plant I have in a pot with leaves of 1/3 the size and not serrated. But with your "Taichang" there is this yuzu-smell.

Btw. to me leafs resembles ichangensis more than yuzu.
